Martin Luther
It is difficult to understand the role of Martin Luther in Christian history. Many people see him as a hero in the Reformation. Others disagree. There have been many debates over Luther's controversial teachings. Modern scholars have sought to explain Luther’s ambiguous role throughout the history of Christianity.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was born February 4, 1906, in Breslau (Germany), was an important figure of modern German christianity. He studied at the University of Berlin and became involved in the Protestant Ecumenical Movement. He began to be interested in racial discrimination while there and made many contacts which were crucial for the Confessing Church. He was also a key figure in the German resistance during World War II.
The Crusades
Crusades are faith-based campaigns that the Church waged war for its values. They aimed to protect Christian territories and recover lost ones. The First Crusade was launched by Pope Urban II in 1095 from a central French town. He stated that the pilgrimage to Jerusalem would fulfill all penances. This appeal was both contemporary and novel, since Christians were already fighting back against Muslims in places as far as the Iberian peninsula and Sicily. The Church provided only limited spiritual benefits to the participants.
The Protestant Reformation
The Protestant Reformation was a period of Christian history that witnessed a significant change in church structures. The Reformation allowed the Bible to be more easily accessible, and freed them from the Roman Catholic church's demands. Protestantism also banned the practice of paying money to God in exchange for salvation. It made it clear that Jesus Christ was the only way to save yourself and that his death would pay the penalty for all your sins.
The Crucifixion
The Christian history records a horrendous act of violence, the crucifixion. Jesus was scourged by Roman soldiers and mocked for his claims to be the King of the Jews. The Temple's high council wanted to kill Jesus but needed Rome's approval to do so. The Roman Governor Pontius Pilate found Jesus guilty of treason and condemned him to death. Pilate had suggested that Jesus would be imprisoned instead. But the crowd demanded Jesus be executed.

The resurrection
The resurrection is an important theme of Christian history. It is the core of redemption and the focal event in all four Gospels' passion stories. It reveals Christ as the risen, ascended Lord of all peoples. He rose from death to reign at God's right hand and to return in glory for the redemption of the broken world.
