Religion and The United Nations

mythologies

The United Nations is a global organization that strives to promote world peace and security. Jesus Christ often answered questions of his disciples, both immediate and general. Many of his answers were eloquent and prophetic. The disciples began to grasp Jesus's message after the Pentecost.

Case studies

The UN has many religious actors who are active participants and bring diverse perspectives to the table. The UN deals with many issues that touch on religion, and the participation of religious actors can help address issues affecting religious communities directly. In this issue brief, we highlight nine examples of UN-related issues where religious actors have been active.

To support sustainable development, intergovernmental agencies and governments have partnered with diverse faith-based or civil society organizations. Together, they engage the social capital of diverse faith communities and their capacities to facilitate humanitarian assistance. These efforts are essential to achieve development goals. For peace to be achieved in the world it is essential that faith-based conflict resolution efforts are engaged.

The new millennium brought with it a new surge of religious feelings. It was thought that modernism had risen, but it has been replaced by a rising tide of religious feelings. Human Rights, UN and Baha'is Iran is one example of these new feelings. It examines the intersection of religion and rights.

Study of religious NGOs in case studies

Since 1945, UN activities have been facilitated by religious NGOs. Since 1972, there has been a Committee of Religious NGOs at the UN, which is made up of representatives from religious, spiritual, ethical, and other organizations accredited to the UN. The committee exists to foster cooperation and the exchange of diverse points of view.

This book presents a detailed analysis of the activities of religious non-governmental organizations at the United Nations in New York as well as Geneva. Based on a three-and-a-half-year investigation of activities at both locations, it reveals the many ways religion operates in visible ways within the UN system.

These organizations are addressing some of the most pressing issues faced by the world today. They also engage in various development activities. For example, they are engaging in interreligious dialogues to promote peace and human rights in conflict zones.

Case studies on UN processes

The history of UN processes relating to religion has been turbulent. Although the UN is a secular organization, some UN members have doubted its relevance to religious freedom promotion. Contrary to this, many FBOs of the UN have a more liberal orientation. They seek to link up and work with liberal governments as well as NGOs.

The UN is an open forum for secular debates. The world's public policy discourse is shaped by secular values and norms. They influence liberal ideas as well as non-liberal ones. Even conservative FBOs voted against liberal SRHR laws. These conservative voices don't often speak openly about their religious beliefs.

In the UN, FBOs are increasingly prominent actors. They have played an important role in the settlement of conflict in many countries. For example, South Africa's religious groups promoted reconciliation and peace. Mozambique's religious actors played a crucial role in resolving conflicts.
