The god is often associated with war and violence in all of its ugly forms. He is associated as the god of violence, blood and destruction of life.

Ares' bloodthirsty nature made him a difficult god to worship and led to many defeats in battle. He was also often put into a pan by giants and was frequently the victim of Athena’s fury.

The mighty Spartan army was the center of Spartan life. To begin military training, boys as young seven-years old can leave their home. They could not find another vocation or education. The Spartans worshiped the god Ares, who represented the values of Sparta. In the city, they erected a statue in chains of Ares.

He is also the Roman god Mars’ ancestor
Ares, the ancestor to the god Mars and father of the founders Romulus, Romulus, and Remus, is known as Ares. Ares was hated by most gods, but was beloved by the goddess Aphrodite. Aphrodite chose handsome Ares, even though she was married to Hephaestus, a mortal god.
