The United Nations and Religion

religions of the world islam

The United Nations (UN) is a international organization that seeks to bring about world peace, security and stability. Jesus Christ often answered questions of his disciples, both immediate and general. Many of his answers were eloquent and prophetic. After the Pentecost the disciples began to get the meaning of Jesus' words, especially when he mentioned an organization that would promote world peace and security.

Religious actors are actively engaged in the UN and bring diverse perspectives and ideas to the table. The UN is involved in many religious issues, so religious actors may be able to help directly address issues affecting religious communities. The new millennium has brought a new surge in religious feelings. What was once thought of as the rise of modernism is now a cresting wave in religious feelings. Case studies of religious NGOs

Since 1945, UN-related religious NGOs have participated actively in UN work. Since 1972, there's been a Committee of Religious NGOs (UN), which includes representatives from religious, spiritual and ethical organizations. The committee exists to foster cooperation and the exchange of diverse points of view.

This book provides a detailed study of the activities and policies of religious NGOs at United Nations Headquarters in New York City and Geneva. Based on a three-and-a-half-year investigation of activities at both locations, it reveals the many ways religion operates in visible ways within the UN system.

These organizations address the most pressing global issues. They are also engaged in a variety of development activities. They also engage in interreligious discussions to promote peace and human dignity in conflict zones.

Case studies on UN processes

UN processes related to religion have an often troubled history. Despite having a traditionally secular orientation, some UN staff have questioned whether the UN can promote religious freedom. In contrast, many FBOs in the UN's system have a more liberal orientation, and seek to link up with liberal governments and NGOs.

The UN is a secular forum, and debates are held within this context. Secular values and norms shape the world's public policy discourse. They are influential on liberal and nonliberal ideas. Even conservative FBOs have opposed liberal SRHR policies. These conservative voices rarely speak openly about their religious convictions.

FBOs in the UN are increasingly important actors. They have played a significant role in the settlements of many conflicts. South Africa is an example of a country where religious groups promote peace and reconciliation. Mozambique is a country where religious actors have played a major role in the resolution of conflicts.
