Monotheistic and polytheistic religions

religions in india ppt

The two main branches of the religion are monotheistic or polytheistic. These two approaches are based on the Greek roots henos (one) and theos (god), and are different from one another. Monotheism can be defined as a group that includes several tribal religions. Polytheism, on the other hand, is the belief in one god.

Monotheist religions

Monotheism is a cosmological theory that asserts that there is one deity. This irenic entity, which is ultimately superior to all other entities, is the source of world order. Although it doesn't necessarily require one omniscient God, monotheistic traditions are often marked by an intense sense of authority or exclusivity.

Monotheism can be practiced in three main religions: Christianity and Islam. While all three are monotheistic, the modern understanding of monotheism is relatively recent compared to the rise of the major world religions. Monotheism was actually developed hundreds of years ago, after the major religions.

Zoroastrianism (a monotheistic religion) was one that was influential. It believed in a dualistic idea of good/evil, and it later influenced many major global religions. Another monotheistic religion is Judaism, which believes in one God who speaks to his prophets. The prophet Moses led the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt and wandered the desert for 40 year.

The concept of monotheism has a complicated history. Early examples of it include the Middle East and Buddhism. Many religions of the Middle East were multitheistic with many gods. However, monotheism emerged and continued to evolve, building on earlier religious traditions.
