Minotaur

There have been many mythological creatures that have appeared in Greek history. The Minotaur is one of them. Minotaur's name derives its Greek roots from Minos and "taur," which means "bull". This name is not the only one. Asterion was Minotaur’s first name. It refers to Taurus, the bull constellation. The Minotaur's terrifying appearance is a mythical creature that is one of the most fearsome in Greek mythology.

Colchian dragon

The Colchian Dragon is a mythological creature that was known in ancient Greek mythology. It guarded the Golden Fleece and was a giant serpent. It is said that it poisoned fangs and was huge, but the myth does NOT describe how it kills his prey. The story does state that the dragon was killed by a witch named Medea.

Three-headed dog

Cerberus, the three-headed dog from Greek mythology, was the guardian of the Underworld gates. He was also a frightening beast. It was said that it had a snake tail, snake mane and lion claws. In a story by Euripides, Heracles was sent to capture Cerberus from the god Hades. Hades requested Heracles not to use his weapons against the threeheaded dog. Heracles agreed.


Merpeople

In ancient Greek mythology, merpeople are beautiful female figures who would lure men into the water and lure them to their deaths. They were also known to be sirens. These creatures could be found swimming in the ocean, and they lured men to their deceitful songs. Although this was frowned upon by the Christian church, some ancient Greek authors gave credit to Aphrodite (the Greek goddess of pleasure and love), for merpeople.

Erymanthian boar

The mythical Erymanthian Boar was an enormous boar that had a wild and uncontrolled nature. This boar was known to live in the marshes and glens of Lampeia and Erymanthus.

Colchian lion

The Colchian Dragon (fire-breathing giant serpent) guarded and protected the Golden Fleece. Jason, the Greek god of war, sought the Golden Fleece. It was later taken over by the Argonauts. Jason and Argonauts found the dragon in the story. A witch named Medea helped Jason defeat the dragon and put it to sleep.

Amazonian warriors are mythological creatures that lived in the ancient world. Though they were largely unknown during the time of Greek mythology, their legend has survived to this day. They were fearful, revered, and avoided.
