Religions of ancient iranians

Ancient Iranian religions were founded on the idea of a three-tiered cosmos that included earth, sky, and heaven above. They were very similar to other Indo-European religions. There were many male deities in the Iranian pantheon who represented natural phenomena, social norms, institutions, and other elements. The Iranian pantheon was divided in two main groups: Ahuras or Daivas. Daivas, which is Persian for "heavenly one", were thought to be demons. Ahuras were noble sovereign divinities who were opposed yazatas and bagha, which are demons and godlike entities, worshipped by a minority of Iranians.

However, rabbinic writings recognize common legal terminology and practices between both cultures. One example is the concept eminent domain. This is used by both Jewish and Iranian jurisconsults.

While Mithraism was an important influence on early Christianity, there were also deities and concepts that were very similar to other cults. These beliefs influenced the early Christian canon. Many early Christians borrowed elements from these cults and adapted them to the Christian faith. Zoroastrianism was also an influence on the development of Christianity.
