One of the most common questions that people ask is: "Is reiki safe?" The good news: the answer is a strong "yes." There are no known side effect. It does not interact with other medical treatments or aggravate fatigue. However, there is a little mystery surrounding the mechanism of reiki.
No known side effects
Although there are some side effects to reiki, studies show that the treatment is very beneficial for those suffering from chronic pain. Several hospitals and doctors use reiki treatments to help patients cope with the stress and discomfort of a chronic illness. Reiki aids patients in coping with psychological and spiritual distress, as well as pain relief.
Reiki is said to cause deep relaxation, emotional stress relief, and general health. It is not intended to replace or supplement medical treatment. Regular reiki sessions can help you cope with stress better and could even be used as preventive medicine. Reiki sessions are thought to have positive effects on your mental, physical and emotional health.
Does not interfere with medical treatments
Harvard Medical School's research shows that Reiki can reduce anxiety and pain in patients who have had surgery. In particular, reiki has been shown to improve HRV (heart rate variability), a measure of autonomic nervous system function. Higher HRV is associated with better patient outcomes, including less pain, anxiety and nausea. The study included 99 heart attack patients and tracked their progress over time.

Reiki can be used in combination with other medical treatments or alone. It is compatible with homeopathy, chiropractic care, massage and even chiropractic care. It does not interfere or affect any other medications or procedures. Although Reiki cannot treat or prevent congenital birth defects, it can help make the process of living with a disability more comfortable.
Does not increase anxiety
Reiki can be used as a complementary energy therapy to treat many conditions. It has been shown to improve overall wellbeing and reduce anxiety. Many hospitals offer Reiki along with other complementary therapies. It can be used post-operatively to reduce pain and depression. It has been shown in cancer patients to reduce anxiety symptoms.
Reiki research has some limitations, despite its positive outcomes. It should be considered a complement to conventional treatments. The practice must be clearly defined. Pamela Miles is working towards achieving this goal.
It does not aggrave fatigue
Reiki may be a safe, non-invasive way to manage symptoms of chronic pain. The placebo effect of Reiki may open up more options for treating symptoms than was previously believed. In the primary outcome of the study, however there was no difference in Reiki usage between placebo patients and Reiki practitioners. Reiki practitioners had a 29 percent lower use of pain medications. This was a difficult measure to determine, but could be more representative of Reiki's healing benefits.
Reiki has also been shown to be beneficial for patients with chronic fatigue. In a recent study, Reiki was compared with massage therapy for its effectiveness. The researchers found that Reiki did not aggravate fatigue in cancer patients. The reason for this is that cancer is a hypermetabolic tissue that utilizes more resources than other tissues. Treatments for cancer can be very taxing. Patients often feel fatigued due to the stress levels experienced during treatment.

Does not increase blood pressure
A University of Tennessee study found that Reiki does not raise blood pressure in healthy subjects. The researchers reviewed 13 peer-reviewed Reiki research studies published between 1998 & 2016. The study included seven singleblind studies and four double-blind randomized studies. They also included short-term Reiki sessions and long-term Reiki sessions and clinical trials.
Reiki does not raise blood pressure. However it has been proven effective in reducing bloodpressure levels. Reiki sessions allow the practitioner to feel and relax while feeling the healing effects. The effects of Reiki are felt throughout the body. It can be compared with Shi Feng or the medications commonly used to treat high blood pressure. Reiki works by working on the blood vessels in the body to reduce pressure.
